NEWS: Updated 20th February 2010

20/02/10 - BREAKING NEWS !  - The Mini Ton Cup is ON!

The 2010 Mini Ton Cup will be held as a three race event on Saturday the 21st August 2010, at the Island Sailing Club, Cowes.  The intention being that we can all make our way to a marina in Cowes on the Friday and have an informal meet up that evening. Sunday is then free to get ourselves back to our usual berths.

On Saturday the racing will take place from a Committee boat start in the Solent with a mixture of set courses and Windward/Leewards.  The races will be kept relatively short, so as to keep things close, safe and fun.

Following the racing there will be a BBQ and prize giving on the Island Sailing Club Terrace (which is partially covered) with plenty of opportunity to socialise together! Partners and families can come along join in the evening fun and very reasonably priced accommodation is available at the club (by prior arrangement)

Racing for THE Mini Ton Cup will be conducted by boats entering with I.R.C. ratings and the main prize will be awarded to the boat with the best results from all three races.....

However, the ISC also has it's own rating system ISCRS (used for the Round The Island race) which is FREE to competing yachts - and race results and prizes will also be awarded for yachts racing under the ISCRS.  (you MUST complete the ISCRC Rating Form to get your rating BEFORE the event - to do so, download this from:

The official Notice of Race will be posted here shortly - so watch this space!  The entry fee is expected to be around £40 per boat, and the evening BBQ will be £12.95 per head.  (Marina fees will be additional)

We are really lucky to be able to hold this event and thanks goes out to Kemp Sails, Ken Docherty, Harken and Outdoor Xscape for supporting the event financially and by providing event prizes.

Guys, please do make very effort to attend this event and make it the success and super fun occasion that it should be!

If you can't bring you own boat (or don't have one yet!) - then stick a notice on the 'crews available' section and come and get involved.

03/01/10  - Happy New Year !  The year has started superbly with two major pieces of good news:

Firstly, that the Notice of Race for the IRC Easterns has been published at www.rbyc.org.uk (see link opposite) and Mini Tonners are mentioned at both 3.2 and 11.4. So we have our first class regatta!!!

Secondly, we have just had confirmed that Mini Tonner's will have their own class at the Island Sailing Club's Training regatta held on the first weekend in June.  There will be on the water coaching from Cathy Foster - which should help us get started!

01/12/09  - The site has only been online now since the 15th November and already we have about 18 members with a range of varying boat designs, from the production Mini's through to One-Offs, based all over the country.  My Blackberry pings just about every day with at least one new member - which is really exciting!  There is lots of enthusiasm for the class and I've had lots of encouragement - for which I thank you.

I will now do my best to get the event details clarified for 2010, so we can all make our plans to get the boats together on the water - which is really the name of the game!

Hopefully we'll have an event on the East Coast and probably a couple on the South Coast that will have a 'Mini Tonner' Class start.  Plus, I'm hoping we'll have at least a few other events that will be advertised on the site, that we know other Mini Tonner's will be racing in and we can participate in as part of the fleet.  So, please watch this space!

11/11/2009:  The Quarter Ton Fleet have agreed to let the Mini Tonners race alongside them at selected 2010 events.  We must provide a minimum number of entrants (and behave ourselves!).  So, please register your interest for the events, so we can can all see who else is likely to get involved.  (A formal entry for the event will need to be be made later).
